Banks expand kisan credit card scheme

The banking sector, including regional rural Banks and combined banks, have issued 628,392 kisan recognition card game (KCC) with a recognition bounds of Rs 3,272.08 crore in Mysore duirng the first nine calendar months of 2007-08.

All the eligible card holders have got been covered under personal accident coverage scheme.

According to information compiled by Syndicate Bank, the convenor of state degree bankers commission (SLBC), commercial Banks have got issued 235,988 card game with a recognition bounds of Rs 1,667.24 crore, while regional rural Banks issued 144,388 card game with recognition bounds of Rs 996.68 crore in the state. The co-operative banks have got issued 247,016 card game with Rs 608.16 crore recognition bounds during the year.

The Kisan Recognition Card (KCC) scheme, introduced in 1998, have received overpowering response from the husbandmen as well as the banks. The Centre have entrusted Nabard the duty of ensuring proper execution of the strategy and timely monitoring.

According to Nabard, there is still adequate range for extending the strategy to many more than countries of the state as many husbandmen are left uncovered under the scheme. Particularly, husbandmen in the backward territories like Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Chitradurga and Davanagere are yet to be brought under the KCC scheme.

In keeping with the ways received from the Centre, Nabard had issued instruction manual to co-ops and RRBs to do all possible attempts to place and convey into fold, the husbandmen who are not so far covered under the KCC scheme.

Further, it is emphasised that the women necessitate to have got more than entree to credit. Nabard have also requested all the Banks to cover little husbandmen also reexamine the advancement regarding issue of KCCs with specific mention to insurance of women, little and edge husbandmen in the above backward districts.
